Hot tub rules in LaSalle

Every municipality sets its own rules for hot tubs. This is what the Town of LaSalle publishes:

  • The Town lists hot tubs among the projects that do not require a building permit.
  • The pool enclosure rules do not apply to a hot tub or swim spa when a secure cover of rigid material is placed over the entire opening and locked in place.
  • A hot tub may not be placed in a front yard or on an easement, and must be at least 1.2 metres from the side and rear lot lines.
  • These rules are in the Town’s Fence By-law 8594.

The cover that comes with an Arctic Spa is rigid, locks, and meets ASTM Standard F1346-91 — the safety-cover standard several Ontario municipalities name. Ask your showroom for the cover’s specifications if your municipality wants them with a permit application.

Separately, anywhere in Ontario: electrical work you hire out must be done by a Licensed Electrical Contractor, who files the notification of work with the Electrical Safety Authority. Every spa needs a GFCI breaker. See our site preparation guide for the electrical supply each spa needs.
