Hot tub rules in Amherstburg
Every municipality sets its own rules for hot tubs. This is what the Town of Amherstburg publishes:
- A hot tub equipped with a functioning lockable cover is excluded from the Town’s swimming pool rules, so it does not need a pool enclosure.
- An unoccupied hot tub must be covered with a lockable cover.
- A pool enclosure, where one is required, is a permanent fence at least 1.22 metres (48 inches) high.
- The Town’s pool guide says pools and hot tubs must be kept 5 metres from overhead power lines.
- These rules are in the Town’s Fence By-law 2022-027.

The cover that comes with an Arctic Spa is rigid, locks, and meets ASTM Standard F1346-91 — the safety-cover standard several Ontario municipalities name. Ask your showroom for the cover’s specifications if your municipality wants them with a permit application.
Separately, anywhere in Ontario: electrical work you hire out must be done by a Licensed Electrical Contractor, who files the notification of work with the Electrical Safety Authority. Every spa needs a GFCI breaker. See our site preparation guide for the electrical supply each spa needs.
